Gov. Terry Bradstat lobbied for tax credit for wind energy and his effort paid off with $1.9 billion investment by Midamerican Energy Company, one of the companies of Warren Buffett. The investment will add 656 additional wind turbines. So far the company has built 1127 wind turbines since 2004. Upon installation of wind turbines, wind power contribution to the grid will be 39% vs 26% in 2011.
MidAmerican had to go to windpower because of its alleged violation of clean air law. The govt compelled MidAmerican to install pollution control at its coal power plants.
The wind power projects will generate 480 construction jobs, 48 permanent jobs and $360 million in new property taxes not to mention property leases
