The installed solar power capacity of Japan has risen to 12.2 gW until February this year. This is huge considering that Japan had only 5.3 gW until end of 2011. This would place Japan in same level as Germany. This is despite the high FIT for solar.
Most of the solar energy is located at Hokkaido, the northern islands
Blame this huge spike in solar due to the Fukushima incident. Japan is shifting to clean energy?
Wind energy is still very anemic with only 0.6 gW capacity
