New "Micro-Batteries" Show Great Potential, Now The Most Powerful Batteries On The Planet

Newly created “micro-batteries” that are only a few millimeters in size are now the most powerful batteries in the world. The new batteries, created by researchers at the University of Illinois, greatly out-power “even the best supercapacitors,” while being only a fraction of their size. “They pack such a punch that a driver could use a cellphone powered by these batteries to jump-start a dead car battery – and then recharge the phone in the … Read More

Wind Energy Production Levels Hit All-Time High In California

California’s wind energy production levels recently reached a new all-time high of 4,196 megawatts (MW). The record was achieved on April 7th at 6:44 PM. This is a surge higher than the previous all-time high of 3,944 MW achieved earlier in the year on March 3. The California Independent System Operator Corporation (ISO), the state’s primary operator for its high-voltage network, released the information in a recent press release covered by Business Wire. Smart Electric Drive To Offer Leasing Option In The US

Smart USA is going to start offering its US customers the option to lease the batteries for its Smart ForTwo electric cars. Smart’s decision to do so in Europe was highly successful. The success rate of leasing compared to buying outright has been so incredible that 97% of European customers chose to lease the batteries. This reflects the tendency of most people to choose options with recurrent expenses rather than buying their property outright and … Read More

Germany Installs 775 MW Of PV In Q1 2013

Derived from German-language reports, Germany’s Federal Environment Minister, Peter Altmaier, announced that the country had added 290 megawatts (MW) of new photovoltaic capacity in March. This information comes ahead of expected Federal Network Agency figures, but if the information proves to be accurate then that not only means that Germany has installed 775 MW of photovoltaic capacity in the first quarter of 2013. The figure is actually lower than any of the decreasing monthly installations … Read More

Solar Power Record In Germany — 22.68 GW — Infographic

On Monday, the 15th of April, 2013, the approximate 1.3 million solar power systems in Germany set a new domestic/world record by reaching a peak power output of 22.68 GW at noon. The New Normal This new record is almost 0.5 GW above the “old” record of 22.2 GW, which was set on May 25th, 2012. Allthough I love celebrating all solar records, the biggest news might be that “just” 22.68 GW is apparently no longer newsworthy in … Read More
