Low-Income Solar Programs In California Get The Green Light

They aren’t new programs, but they are programs that were approaching a red light, one that we weren’t sure was going to turn. Luckily, the light has just turned green. But there’s one more light ahead — the California Senate light. If the a bill makes it through the California legislature, it will continue delivering good solar power to low-income households across California. Who would block that? Here’s the full release from GRID Alternatives and … Read More

Show Me The Money! Public Capital Vehicles Could Liberate More Renewable Energy

Wonk Alert: Via the good people over at NREL’s Renewable Energy Project Finance website, here’s an important article on a very important mechanisms that could liberate more renewable energy in the US: Improving the availability of capital to renewable energy (RE) projects represents a critical component to lowering the overall cost and scaling the adoption of RE technologies. Public capital—investment raised in the financial markets through securitized instruments and pooled investment vehicles—is a potential means of achieving … Read More

MIT Researchers Weigh In On US–China "Solar Duel"

Editor’s note: For years, we’ve been covering the China–US solar trade controversy. For the most part, this has involved covering the reports and commentary from industry associations and politicians. It has taken awhile for any academic institutions to chime in on the matter, but some MIT researchers have now done so. Their study is linked in the MIT article reposted below (images added). However, before that, here is one key concluding paragraph from the report: … Read More

ABB Unveils Ultrafast, 15-Second "Flash Charging" Electric Bus

We’ve covered hybrid and electric buses for awhile. They’ve been growing steadily around the world and are becoming quite the cleantech solution to urban transportation needs. But there generally isn’t much “hot” news in this arena. There may be now — ABB has just unveiled a pretty wicked-looking 100% electric bus with “ultrafast charging times.” Here’s a quote from an ABB rep to me: “Using a laser-guided arm, onboard batteries are charged in 15 seconds with … Read More
