More factoids on graphene

Savings from oil and coal importation

Repost from Clean Tecnica | by Nathan | June 2, 2013

Graphene is an exciting new material that consist of single layer of carbon and is endowned by remarkable strength and other features:   absorption of wide spectrum of light,  ability to absorb single photon of light into multiple electrons.  However, perfect graphene can be produced only in small sizes and connection with other sheets make it structurally weak.

New method of CVD  (Crystalline Vapor Deposition) can make large areas of of perfect graphene. What was found out is that chemicals used in CVD can make graphene weak.

Applications for graphene include:

TV screens that can be rolled (or iPad or or cellphones)

space elevators

ultra strong materials surpassing carbon fiber
