It was not technology that transformed solar power in the US but the financing scheme that provided ease of ownership - solar leasing. The advent of high voltage inverter was the last of the technological innovation but it was leasing that was industry changing event.
The scheme was started by Sunrun, a start up of two business graduates from Stanford, Lynn Jurich and Ed Fenster who saw that the 3 obstacles to solar industry for residential use were: money, money, money.
Leasing works this way: the lessor uses his equity, his tax credits to purchase the solar on behalf of the residential owner and lets him use the unit with little or no up front cost. Under this model, the lessor receives the tax credit and the depreciation. The lease works on a 20 year plan and lessor has operating and maintenance plan for the lease. The options at the end of the lease include: renewal, purchase by the lessee, or removal of the unit.
Monthly payment plan. The lessee agrees to pay for the electricity generated by the system at the rate equal to or lower than the grid prices. This type is more beneficial to the lessor in case the utility increases the electricity rates. Typically a 20 year plan too.
Prepaid plan. The lessor pays for the 65% cost of the lease and does not pay until the end of the lease. This works well for retirees.
This is about emerging renewable energy development in the Philippines. In Southeast Asia, Philippines has emerged to be one of the leaders. Huge investments have been made into solar and wind energy.

Solar supplier still focuses on solar gadgets, street lights - not the power gen

I met a solar supplier last week and he is a Chinese and he gave me contact number from China. He gave me a folder and presentation. His prices are stiff and his products revolve around gadgets: solar powered portable lamps (50 watts) solar chargers, led lamps, and his main focus is solar street lamps. His PTM are mostly LGU and he is the biggest supplier in Palawan (for street lamps?)
He gave me though a contact for solar irrigation. If he gives me an affordable price, then we can help many farmers. in rural areas who are burdened by fuel cost for irrigation and NIA water fees.

Solar demand grows; costs falling down

Situation:
l. Nuclear energy is having an image problem thanks to Chernobyl and Fukushima incident. And the latest news of leaking underground nuclear waste tanks in Washington.
2. Natural gas is cheap and plenty: at Malampaya in PHL and contested area with China in Palawan. The Sta Rita power plant in Batangas rated at 1GW gets its CNG from Malampaya. CNG can not compete with nuclear even on cost, cleanliness, and safety.
3. Fossil fuel supply has been erratic, and so with its price; $40.00/barrel, then it could shoot up over $l00.00 per barrel
4. Hydro - el Nino, la Nina, typhoons, drought has made hydro as unreliable. While it is supposed to be cheap, siltation and maintainance of hydro has been expensive. Agus I in Mindanao has been derated at 30% capacity.
Time to invest in solar?
Demand for solar capacity, and that is without government subsidy is at 30 gigaWatts in 2013 with strong demand coming from India, US, China, and Germany. This is according to Deutsche Bank. Indias New and Renewable Energy Ministry increased its RE capacity by 12.4 gW, making a total of 26 gW. India has to accelerate its Re capacity because it is ranked as one of the most polluted countries/cities in the world (For the EV cars, M and M has developed a car with 100 mile range on a single charge). India is really taking the issue of renewables very seriously.
Costs of Solar panels has been falling down by as much as 50% over the last 2 years.
In Gerrmany, renewables contribute up to 25% of its total generating capacity. Thanks to FIT program, Germany has been a leading supplier of renewables, especially solar worldwide. In Germany alone, there could be 80 gW of power generation from solar
