Renewed Interest in renewables after meeting chairman of WEGEN

This post interest on renewable energy was renewed after meeting Mr. Michael Schefeld, the chair of WeGen.   For more than an hour he talked effusively about Renewables in Germany where he comes from, Net Metering (a challenge)   In Germany he  claims a 60%   Renewable acceptance (with solar and wind leading the charge)  He showed me the real time increse in renewable usage.

He described the operations of WeGen (engaged in the  importation of solar panels, controllers and inverters)  I told him about our brief foray into PV and its financing.     I broached the feasibility of working together in this promising field. It has been an interest for the last 20 years.   

We Gen of which he is the chairman, has partnered with the bishops in promoting renewables (PV)  This post observed this to be a unique business model but ultimately financing will be a key component in winning the renewable war.

\He discussed the logic behind the  PV ie of that being close to the user, no infrastructure needed like the grid  (However it occured to this post that batching may be cheaper in communities to have a farm rather than rooftop installation.  

He said that cost of the Solar panels have gone down from $0.40 to only $0.20 (still at P100,,000 per kw)

We planned to meet after the ECQ or MECQ but he  died last week.   He  left a widow whom he endowned with a Filipino Chinese restaurant facing a river connecting Laguna Lake and Pasig River.

RE Solar and Wind contributed 60% of total Energy of Germany on October 3!

Solar and wind energy contributed almost 60 % of the total energy at noon of October 3, 2013.  For the entire day, however, the REs only contributed 36% of the total energy of Germany.

It was windy and sunny that day hence the high RE - wind and solar contribution.  This is significant, since Germany is not as sunny as in USA.  I learned that in the PHL, wind is not working that well most of the time they stop, or cooperatives do not buy their output (no buy or take provisions in their contracts prior to their approval?)

Superfast l5 seconds flash charging for electric buses from ABB

ABB, the leading electric gen giant has recently unveiled a l00% electric bus with a superfast charging time of l5 seconds from 400 watt source.  Then the bus is recharged for full 3 to 4 minutes of the bus line.

Wow, this will go a long way in removing air pollution in MM.  Most of air pollution in EDSA would be coming from buses.  Electric bus would be a solution. 

This would be utilized in large capacity bus carrying up to 135 buses.

Germany's Offshore Wind Farm Alpha Ventus Fed 267.8 GWH Into Grid In 2012

Germany’s first offshore windfarm pilot project, “Alpha Ventus,” has produced some impressive results for 2012. Alpha Ventus exceeded expectations for its annual yield in 2012. The offshore wind farm fed 267.8 gigawatt-hours of power into the German power grid. With that, its power yield is 15.3% higher than the originally forecast value. Explosive growth in power storage system seen

It is projected that there will be explosive growth in the production of storage system for solar and other alternative energy:   seen to be growing from $200 million in 2012 to $19 billion in 2017.  That is big great growth.

It will be led by who else:  Germany  -  leader in PV and very low FIT.  It is cheaper therefore to store energy and use it rather than use the same for FIT at daytime.

A lot of things are changing and innovating in the renewable and solar energy field.
